i tried facebook dating and met these men

I am single. Single single. Single for real.  No friends with benefits.  No guy on reserve.  Single.  I personally know several couples who met on social media and dating sites.  They all seem pretty happy.  Some are married.  Some have children. Apparently on-line dating works.  So, I decided to give it a try.

Spoiler alert:  I’m still single 😊

I loaded a profile on Facebook Dating.  I used real pictures and my real name.  No filters.  I was straight forward and honest.  To my surprise, there were a lot of men from which to choose.  All ages. All ethnicities. All professions.  A virtual smorgasbord.

Some things I noticed right away:

·        A lot of Black men take pictures with a hat on.  Usually a baseball cap.  I can’t figure that out.  It’s either the culture or some insecurity.  Either way, I usually passed those guys.  You can’t really see their face.

·        Most men don’t like to smile in pictures.  Unfortunately, the mean mug face is intimidating.  I wonder; who are they trying to attract looking mean?

·        White men like Black women.

·        Most used profile line - “I don’t like drama”.

·        Men use old pictures on their profiles too.

·        Men who take shirtless pictures are only looking for sex.

·        Men who have nice cars like to take pictures with the car, but they don’t want a woman who wants them for what they have…???

I was excited at first, I thought there might be a real possibility of at least making a new friend.  But it wasn’t to be.  I met these guys instead:

·        THE OFFICER – This guy was nice.  He made me laugh.  We had a lot in common and had no difficulty talking.  We had a dinner date that went well.  We continued our phone conversations and tentatively arranged to see each other again – and then nothing.  He left a text message conversation short with no follow-up.  An entire week went by and he finally texts me with this: “Have I lost you already?”  Dafuq??  His excuse was he had to go upstate to chase a parolee……OK.  I guess the phones don’t work upstate.  That was the end of that. Delete. Delete. Delete.

 ·        THE PRETTY BOY – This guy was entertaining.  His self confidence was borderline cocky.  I didn’t mind, I enjoy an alpha male.  His perception of himself was more grand than actual reality, so it was amusing.  We made it to the first date which went so well, it ended with a good night kiss.  The thing about pretty boys is they think they’re the prize.  They don’t put much effort into getting to know you and they expect you to pursue them, anything short of that and they don’t think you’re interested.  I’m old fashioned.  I don’t chase and I give the energy I receive.  Anything you have to chase is running away.  Delete. Delete. Delete.

 ·        THE WORSHIPPER – This guy couldn’t get past how beautiful I am.  The three conversations we had revolved around my physical appearance.  It was creepy.  We never made it to a date.  I blocked him.

 ·        SOMEBODY’S MAN – This last guy was a sweetheart.  I enjoyed talking to him.  He was attentive, said all the right things and seemed genuinely interested in getting to know me.  The phone conversations and texting went on for about two weeks, then one day I received a call from his number and when I answered a woman said, “Why are you texting my man?”  Pardon?  I entertained her for a few minutes and finally told her to talk to him, then I hung up.  About an hour later this guy calls and is talking to me like normal.  He had no idea she had called.  I told him about the call and he laughed it off saying she’s not his girlfriend.  Whatever.  That’s more drama than I need especially only two weeks in. I blocked him.

I’ve taken my profile down.  LOL.  I may try again some time in the future.  You know what they say, you’ve got to kiss a lot of frogs……
